What's your calling

As I've considered the plan and the purpose that God has for me, and wondered what it is that God has called me to be, I've drawn a simple conclusion that I think some people maybe overlook. I don't think it's intentional, but I think it is very important to consider.

I have a son, therefore I believe I am called to be a father. Pretty simple right. But how many times do I neglect that calling? How often do things just seem more important? How often would I rather do what I want than do what is necessary for my son?

On the other hand, I'm married, so I believe I'm called to be a husband... The same questions from above apply.

So, I believe there is a balance to this. I also believe that we should be perfecting the areas that we are called in. In times past I have been so caught up in finding God's plan and will for my life that I neglect what he's already showed me I'm to be doing.

If you find yourself to be struggling in one of the areas that you have been called in, reach out to the Lord, ask him for help, that is okay to do. I think as adults we sometimes feel that it's a sign of weakness to ask for help. But 1 Corinthians 1:25 says, For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength. The bible also says that in our weakness, God is made strong! So turn to the wise and merciful one today and receive the abundance of grace that he has already supplied for you.

I hope you find this word encouraging.

  1. You know, I read this early this morning and have been pondering your words as I went throughout my day. You know what I think? I think that until a woman learns to fulfil the calling of mother and wife-taking care of her family and home-God may not be able to use her outside of that. I know that is bold...but think about it. We have to prove ourselves with what we have been given FIRST before we are entrusted with more. I have thought about all the succesful ministers I know. I'm pretty confident to say that they had their home life in order (not perfect, but in good, working order) before they were called to the ministry. So many of us, like you mentioned, are looking for this GRAND calling when we are overlooking our first ministry--which is to our spouse and our children! I was given a book a few years ago called The Confident Woman by Annabelle Gillham. It CHANGED my marriage. I cannot say enough good things about that book. It taught me how to REALLY be a wife. How to honor God with EVERYTHING I do--including cooking, cleaning and laundry. I think every woman (wife) needs to have a copy of this book. We need to realize that God has called us to love and respect our spouse--and that us completely UNRELATED to how much we think they deserve it or have earned it. I respect my husband and show him love and honor because it is what God asks of me as a wife. And I purpose in my heart to be obedient to Him. It is just the icing on the cake that I have a Godly husband who in turn, responds in a way that I get blessed from him (he helps out more, he's more thoughtful of my feelings) in addition to the blessings I get from my Heavenly Father for being obedient. We live in this world where people think it is undignified to be a stay at home mom or a devoted wife. That's poo-poo thinking. The way God designed marriage and family is the ONLY way that works. I am so passionate about this subject and how it can SAVE and change the marraiges of people that I really hope God uses me someday to spread this information--especially to young girls getting married. It is a priceless gift...to be able to serve your family and thereby--serve God. It is then (and only then, I think) that God can take that woman (or man) and use them in other areas of the ministry. 2 Sam. 6:22 "I will become even more undignified than this!"
